Yogic intervention may be used as an alternative medicine in games and sports: An observation

I have read the article entitled “Yoga and Brain Wave Coherence: A Systematic Review for Brain Function Improvement” in the influential Heart and Mind journal with great interest. It suggests incorporating a wide range of studies that in recent years, scientific interest in yogic treatments such as meditation, pranayama, and yoga has grown, and more experimental studies are being conducted to see how they affect brain wave activity. After conducting a comprehensive search, De and Mondal shortlisted 73 papers for systematic review. All the experimental studies included yogic treatments, and the findings indicate that yogic interventions such as integrated yoga, meditation, and pranayama increase brain wave activity and cognition. This study explained that yoga is now recognized as an alternative and complementary medicine by the scientific community, not only on philosophical grounds. However, I would like to add an idea to emphasize the significance of yogic intervention in various games and sports. The authors may recommend that the yogic intervention be used in a variety of games and sports.
To illustrate, the most important findings of brain wave functioning and their association with integrated yoga exercise, including pranayama and meditation, were highlighted by De and Mandal (2020). However, the authors did not critically review all the 73 studies, as researchers only analyze those by narrative means. Researchers may do their work in a more precise way in the methodology section. Perhaps, a critical examination of all the means and methods used in the respective 73 studies would be preferable. Since the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria were too broad, researchers may not have been able to be very precise in their work. The only findings of the previous studies are all described by De and Mandal (2020), which is one of the main limitations of their study. They can look over the entire research procedure to determine the studies' scope and limitations.
Nowadays, a growing number of adolescents are turning to yoga to improve their overall health and fitness. The majority of previous researches on children and adolescents suggest that yoga can be used as a therapeutic intervention with few side effects. The elements of yoga treatments are utilized to improve the cognitive function of many athletes. In addition, yoga is employed by sports trainers as an additional intervention in the recovery of selected sports injuries in competitive sports. Over the last decade, the research on the effects of yoga on psychological and physiological outcomes has expanded. Moreover, Biswas et al. discovered that yogic practice in cricket training sessions helps to increase motor fitness, which is a vital aspect of performance. Athletes can use yoga to improve their breathing techniques as well as their balance, flexibility, core strength, and endurance. Yoga practice, on the other hand, appears to be linked to moderate gains in cognitive performance. Altogether, De and Mondal discovered significant scientific evidence to support a favorable effect of yoga for improving brain wave activity, which supports enhanced cognition, neuropsychological functions, and overall brain functions after conducting a comprehensive review.
Top-level performance requires an efficient functioning of diverse cognitive faculty such as concentration, decision making, and working memory in a stressful and challenging situation. Surprisingly, cognitive capacity, which is critical for enhancing player performance, improves players' observation and information processing abilities. Indeed, high-competitive sports require remarkable physiological capabilities and cognitive skills. All of that cognitive skill can be addressed by ensuring that training sessions challenge and develop the cerebral pathways. Concerning this, elite players are constantly striving to build their cognitive abilities. According to De and Mondal (2020), combining yoga, meditation, and pranayama can improve cognition and overall brain functions. Therefore, based on all counts and known facts, yogic intervention may be utilized as alternative medicine in games and sports to increase the players' performance.
